Scoliosis SOS Welcomes Patients onto its 100th Treatment Course

ScolioGold Suit

 • Does your son/daughter have a curve greater than 25° (15° if 0-8 years old)?
 • Is the risk of their condition progressing moderate to high?
 • Has a rigid brace been prescribed, but is not worn for aesthetic/comfort reasons?

If the answer is YES to any of the above then have you considered
a ScolioGold Suit?

ScolioGold Suits mimic a therapist’s hands to constantly assist a patient in keeping their corrective posture. They are one of the most modern and innovative approaches to bracing available and consist of an individually tailored Lycra suit with specifically positioned panels, that help to stimulate and support a patient’s back muscles and posture whilst still achieving the fundamental principles of bracing.

A ScolioGold Suit is the perfect partner to our active treatment approach as it does not impose the physical constraints that a traditional “rigid” brace would.

The benefits of using a dynamic ScolioGold Suit are that patients are able to maintain their flexibility at all times and therefore do not suffer from traditional bracing side-effects such as movement restrictions, muscular wasting, decreased postural strength and reduced core stability.

Every patient is assessed individually within the clinic by our trained staff and those with a mild-moderate curvature and a high risk of progression will be prescribed a ScolioGold Suit.

How does a ScolioGold Suit work?

By mirroring the primary aims of our ScolioGold therapy regime it;
 • Provides “translation” forces to correct the curvature in the frontal plane
 • Encourages “de-rotation” of the vertebrae to reduce thoracic/lumbar prominences
 • Enables shoulder correction through specific pressure forces
 • Allows full range of spinal movement, yet guides patient to corrective posture
 • Gives proprioceptive feedback so patients can hold a fully corrected posture easily
 • Combined with ScolioGold therapy it strengthens a patient's back muscles so that corrections can be maintained into adult life.

Case study:

Adele presented with idiopathic scoliosis and a thoracic curvature measuring 50°. Her hospital consultant had recommended immediate spinal fusion surgery. She enrolled on a 4-week course of ScolioGold treatment and was also prescribed a ScolioGold Suit.
X-rays of Adele taken before treatment and wearing her ScolioGold suit after 4-weeks of ScolioGold therapy, indicate a 38% reduction in Cobb angle from 50° to 31°.
Unlike rigid bracing this Cobb angle reduction can be held, even when not wearing the suit, suggesting that 4 weeks of ScolioGold therapy combined with a ScolioGold suit can develop a patient’s muscle control to counter the natural curve progression.
To date, these suits have been shown to be “very effective with the orthotic treatment of mobile, idiopathic and neuropathic scoliotic presentations”.
